Day 1 - Welcome to Hangzhou, China

Upon arrival at the airport or rail station, you’ll be warmly greeted and escorted by private car to the 5-star JW Marriott Hotel.

Day 2 - The Beauty of West Lake

A traditional Chinese proverb state that “above there is Heaven; below there is Hangzhou,” a reference to the natural beauty of West Lake and the surrounding region! This morning, you’ll join your personal guide to experience this lovely scenery on a lake cruise and a guided stroll along the shore. At Lei Feng Pagoda, an impressive 5-story octagonal tower set on a hill overlooking West Lake, your engaging guide will share dramatic legends of the pagoda’s colorful history. End your sightseeing with a tour of Lingyin Temple, an important Buddhist temple founded more than a thousand years ago in a picturesque valley of the Wulin Mountains. Meals B+L

Day 3 - Explore Hangzhou and Journey to Tunxi

Stroll along charming Hefang Street, home to inviting shops and merchant stalls that specialize in traditional Chinese crafts and foods. Then visit the unique Tea Museum for a fascinating look into the history of this “national beverage’ and its enduring role in present-day China. Travel by high speed train to Tunxi for a privately guided walking tour of Old Town, home to splendidly preserved Ming Dynasty buildings. This evening, you’ll join your guide for a congenial dinner featuring Tunxi’s regional cuisine. Overnight at the Libre Resort. Meals B+L+D

Day 4 - Magnificent Yellow Mountain (Mt. Huangshan)

Revered through the ages as China’s loveliest mountain, these spectacular granite peaks have been acclaimed for centuries in Chinese art and literature. Ascend Huangshan by cable car for a privately guided tour showcasing the region’s most dramatic vistas including Flower-Scattering Peak, Lion Peak and Cloud-Dispelling Pavilion. Overnight atop the mountain at the comfortable Xihai Hotel. Meals B+L+D

Day 5 - Sunrise atop Yellow Mountain + Ancient Villages

Arise early this morning to witness a magnificent sunrise over the compelling mountain scenery of Huangshan (weather permitting)! After breakfast at your hotel, make the return cable car journey to the base of the mountain and continue onward to the ancient village of Xidi. With its traditional layout and beautifully preserved architecture, this ancient town is like a living museum and offers a dynamic look into the Ming Dynasty. Then continue to historic Nanping, an ancient village surrounded by rice paddies that have been tended by the region’s farmers for generations. After lunch in a local restaurant, you’ll be escorted to the airport or rail station for your onward journey. Rail and air service is available to Beijing and Shanghai where you can conveniently connect to other cities. Meals B+L
