After a leisurely morning, our car and driver will take you to the airport for our charter flight to Port Hardy at the northern end of Vancouver Island. It’s a thrilling journey that takes you over the forested islands of the Broughton Archipelago and surrounding mountains. From Port Hardy, a chartered floatplane brings you deep into the coastal wilderness of British Columbia. Touching down in Nimmo Bay, you’ll discover our luxury wilderness resort where 9 spacious and private cabins are nestled either at water’s edge or in the forest by a pristine waterfall and stream. Throughout your stay at Nimmo Bay Wilderness Resort, you can choose from a variety of included adventures and activities. Come mealtime, you’ll sit down to Pacific Northwest cuisine skillfully prepared with locally caught seafood, foraged plants, carefully-sourced pasture-raised British Columbia meats, and ingredients from the kitchen’s own organic garden. Day 3 - Full Day Coastal Safari

Awake this morning in the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, one of the largest intact coastal temperate forests left in the world, and get set for the adventure of a lifetime. No two Coastal Safaris are ever the same; they’re tailored by experienced nature guides to account for the day’s weather, wildlife behavior and the interests of our guests. But the area is renowned for its biodiversity, highlighted by the black bears and grizzly bears that come to feast on the abundant sources of food. Setting out this morning with other guests and an experienced wilderness guide, your Coastal Safari will find you exploring by boat and land – keeping your eyes open for animal sightings along the way and learning much as you venture deeper into the pristine wilderness. Throughout the season from May to October, black bears are often spotted along the rocky shoreline – emerging from the forest, ambling along the beach, or foraging for crab, starfish and other delicacies. Autumn is the peak grizzly-viewing time as this iconic Canadian animal follows the returning salmon to the local rivers. Your Coastal Safari includes a gourmet picnic lunch and use of kayaks and paddle boards; there might also be opportunity for fishing, learning to forage wild foods, or visiting local sites like museums and research stations. All gear is included from hiking boots and rain jackets to wetsuits, rods and lures. The waters of British Columbia are also famed for whale watching, and today’s Coastal Safari offers a chance to observe several species. Humpback whales can be spotted throughout the season. Orcas tend to follow the salmon, appearing in the waters around Nimmo Bay from early July well into September. Back at the resort, you’ll sit down to another delightful dinner accompanied by complimentary house wine, beer, spirits and other beverages. Meals B+L+D

Day 4 - Exclusively for A+R Guests

This morning, A+R guests will enjoy a private outing with one of the resort’s expert wilderness guides. Depending upon your personal interests and taste for adventure, you might go paddle boarding in a sheltered cove as you watch for bears, seals and eagles. Or how about kayaking through the coastal islands to find yourself at the resort’s unique floating sauna? A privately guided forest walk or beachcombing are other outings you might consider. In the afternoon, our luxury resort and all of its amenities and included activities are yours to enjoy. You can join a guided group excursion, perhaps a nature hike along the Big Nimmo Trail that winds in and out of the temperate forest along the beach. Or you might simply delight in this pristine wilderness setting – maybe with other guests on the floating dock with its fire pit, soaking in a cedar hot tub by the waterfall, or just lounging on your private terrace. Again, finely prepared farm-to-table Pacific Northwest cuisine is enhanced by complimentary house wines and cocktails. Meals B+L+D
